LIBYAPROSPECT – Editorial
Daesh terrorist attack on Al-Fugha town in Al-Jufra area, southern Libya, on Sunday, had raised questions and angry reaction. Some expect that there is a cooperation between the Chadian opposition forces and Daesh to control the south side of Libya.
The attack resulted in killing four civilians and wounding others as well as abducting around ten Libyan citizens.
Officially, the Government of National Accord (GNA), the State Council, and the House of Representatives (HoR) had condemned the terrorist attack calling for an immediate investigation and arresting the criminals.
The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) also denounced the terrorist operation and called for releasing the abducted. It also called for stopping targeting the civilians and sites.
Observers raised a question about how Daesh had reached the southern areas. Is there any cooperation between the Chadian elements and Daesh to control the south?
The observers said that it is known that the commander of the Dignity Operation, General Khalifa Haftar, is controlling the southern areas by mercenaries from Chad and Sudan. Moreover, the southern citizens had fought the armed groups without any help or support from Haftar.
The observers stated that it should be remembered that Daesh was defeated and expelled from Derna, Benghazi, and Sert on the hands of the Libyans while Haftar’s forces had opened the ways for Daesh elements to escape from the eastern side of Libya to position in Al-Jufra areas and some western areas.
Daesh had taken advantage of the absence of the security devices and intelligence services to carry out the attacks on the civilians in Al-Fugha town.
Activists ask about why Daesh had chosen this time to carry out the terrorist attack especially in the south side of Libya.
