Armed group abducts Al-Araibi in Benghazi

Notables and the people of Al-Araibat tribe condemned, on Tuesday, the abduction of the former mayor of the city of Benghazi, Ahmed Al-Araibi, describing what happened as a terrorist action.

In their statement, the notables said that the profanation and intimidating the civilians means the absence of responsibility and perception. The statement called on the head of the House of Representatives (HoR), Ageela Saleh, and the commander of the Dignity Operation, General Khalifa Haftar, to intervene and open the investigation with the responsible sides about what happened to Al-Araibi, his son, and his family.

The sister of Al-Araibi, Suad Al-Araibi, said that the armed group who kidnapped her brother and his son were wearing military uniforms. They shot at the front of the house before storming inside it. Then they kidnapped Al-Araibi and his son.

She stated that the family couldn’t get any information about where they had taken him to or his fate.

Al-Araibi’s sister added that the kidnappers were on about 30 military armed vehicles without any known affiliation.

From its side, the Libyan Human Rights Organisation, who had denounced the action, stated that Al-Araibi was called by the military prosecutor, but Al-Araibi hadn’t responded to the call.
