LIBYAPROSPECT – Tripoli

The commander of Al-Somoud Brigade, Salah Badi, announced, Tuesday night, that he is in Tripoli to rescue its inhabitants and save them from the humiliation.

Badi, who has appeared on a video clip, said that he would fight the responsible for corruption and their supporters.

Badi in his statement called “the freemen to support him to rid the capital of the corrupted.” He also called the inhabitants that he would “cleanse Tripoli and no one would remain inside it only the clean.” “we would purge 17 Feb. Revolution of the distortion,” Badi said.

It is worth mentioning that Badi was one of the leaders of “Libya Dawn Operation” and was a member of the General National Congress (GNC). Libya Dawn Operation started in July 2014 and ended just before the Libyan Political Agreement, which brought the Presidential Council (PC) of the Government of National Accord (GNA) to Tripoli under the leadership of Fayez Al-Sarraj.

Tripoli witnessed a security tension starting from Sunday. The clashes began on Monday between the Seventh Infantry Brigade (SIB) and some battalions from Tripoli.

In the same context, a security source said that some military leaders in Tripoli had refused, in a top-secret meeting, to discuss a suggestion from some notables and sheikhs of the western region who offered an intervention of a neutral force to solve the disputes and end the clashes.

The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) warned, Tuesday early morning, of the attempts by some factions to tamper with the security in Tripoli and its residents. The UNSMIL stressed that it holds those factions accountable for any harm that may be inflicted on civilians. It added that there is no justification for the bloodshed.

The UNSMIL called on all to spare lives, stop military mobilisation, and allow for mediation.
