Le Drian visits Misrata and Benghazi

The French Foreign Minister, Jean-Yves Le Drian, visited the city of Misrata, on Monday, accompanied with a delegation and met the mayor of Misrata and the members of the municipality members as well as the House of Representatives (HoR) members, Fathi Bashagha and Suliman Al-Faqeeh, and some members of the State Council.

The meeting talked about the political situation in Libya. The Misratan side stressed that it is possible to go for general election in Libya before the end of this year.

The Misratan attendees announced that Misrata is ready for the elections, but initially, it is essential to finish working on the constitution and go for a referendum.

Bashagha stated that Le Drian talked to the leaders of the city about the issue of the referendum on the expected constitution to be ready for the elections.

It is worth mentioning that Le Drian had visited Tripoli and met with the officials in the Government of National Accord (GNA) and the State Council to assure that France supports holding presidential and parliamentary elections in Libya by the end of the current year according to Paris initiative that was announced last May.

In the same context, Le Drian met with the commander of the Dignity Operation, General Khalifa Haftar, in Benghazi to discuss many issues. But no details were published on the issues they had addressed.
