LIBYAPROSPECT – Benghazi
The two boycotting members of the Presidential Council (PC) of the Government of National Accord (GNA), Ali Al-Qatrani and Fathi El-Majbari, announced that Cyrenaica Province (Barqa) is now outside the Libyan Political Agreement.
Al-Qatrani and El-Majbari said, on Monday, in a joint statement that this had happened because of the blockage in the political scene in the capital city that controlled by the militias.
Al-Qatrani called the members of the House of Representatives (HoR) who represent Barqa, the Sheikhs, the wise people and the leaders of Barqa tribes as well as the civil organisations and the activists to convene on Thursday in Benghazi to take some decisions related to the political agreement and Barqa’s rights.
Observers from Barqa said that Al-Qatrani and El-Majbari called for the meeting for the sake of obtaining special political interests. They also try to use Barqa tribes as a pressure card under the pretext of defending the rights of the province.
Bloggers stated that the real problem is that there is a dispute between Al-Qatrani and El-Majbari, on one side, and the head of the PC, Fayez Al-Sarraj, on the other side. The conflict between the two parties was for the positions, but also because the two members are trying to hide their financial corruption.
Activists from Barqa province said that Al-Qatrani And El-Majbari have no right to talk on behalf of Barqa. They called the tribes to keep away from the disputes and the sedition.
The activists commented on the issue by saying that the movements of Al-Qatrani and El-Majbari would only help the commander of the Dignity Operation, General Khalifa Haftar, to obstruct the political agreement and reach his target to rule Libya without any elections.
