LIBYAPROSPECT – London

Sources revealed that the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has been trying to activate a secret strategic project in Libya to link the low lands, the desert south of the Gulf of Sidra, with the Mediterranean Sea. Abu-Dhabi is trying to compete with major countries such as the United Kingdom.

According to Al-Arabi Al-Jadid website, an unidentified source said that the first countries, including the UK, had put the project in front of the Libyan authorities since last decade. However, Muammar Gaddafi had obstructed it, but when the Dignity Operation, general Khalifa Haftar, controlled the oil crescent, nearby Sirte, the UAE was encouraged to communicate with Haftar to take the project.

The source commented that it looks like that the project was the most important reason for the UAE to support Haftar.

The source stated that if the sea waters reach the low lands of the desert through Sirte would bring positive impacts for Libya because it would improve the agriculture and animal wealth, it would also enable Libya to become a market between Europe and Africa. It would even make Libya attractive for the global attention, which is not accepted by the UAE; and that is why the UAE tries to compete with the big countries in Libya.

The sources added that Emirati officials had visited some areas around Sirte to explore the reality and to think practically to take the project.

The source stressed that the UAE would be shocked when it discovers that the British Petroleum (BP) is already carrying out oil exploration in the area since 2007. Moreover, the forces of Al-Bunyan Al-Marsous is one of the primary obstacles in front of the UAE.

The sources think that the UAE is ambitious to affect the Libyan ability in oil and gas production, adding that even Saudi Arabia, Russia, and France might exist in the area. The sources said that Egypt is trying to participate in executing parts of the project.
