LIBYAPROSPECT – London
The head of Directorate of Social Affairs in the African Union Commission (AUC), Amira Elfadil, said in a press release that there are no any operations of human trafficking in Libya.
Elfadil stressed that the AUC had carried out investigations about human trafficking in Libya, which is still on, and had found no evidence to assure the existence of such operations.
She added that the networks of human trafficking had been spread in some neighbouring countries of Libya and south Europe. She said that there is a sizeable detaining centre in Tripoli and others in some other cities.
Elfadil stated that the African countries took some steps to return the illegal migrants from the Libyan prisons to their original countries. She called for awareness campaigns to protect the youth from becoming victims of the networks of human trafficking in Africa and Europe.
