LIBYAPROSPECT – Benghazi
The Commander of the Dignity Operation, General Khalifa Haftar, had led a campaign of arrests against his opponents in the eastern side of Libya.
In parallel, Barqa province, in the eastern side of Libya, is witnessing disputes between bodies affiliated with Haftar and the Presidential Council (PC).
Media sources confirmed that Haftar’s forces had arrested a senior military officer from Haftar’s forces. Other news also reported that the nd disappeared, on Tuesday.
The news added that relatives of Al-Senky confirmed his disappearance, Tuesday night.
Sources from Haftar’s military base said that the commander of the third base in Benghazi, Ali Ehkuma, was arrested and brought to the prison in the base accusing him of getting out military vehicles from his camp without Haftar’s permission. The sources added that other three officers were tortured and imprisoned for the same accusations.
Other sources confirmed that Haftar had signed on a list of more than fifty political and military personalities to be arrested. The figures are accused of supporting the undersecretary of the Interior Ministry of the Government of National Accord (GNA), Faraj Guaim, last week in Benghazi.
The sources stressed that Ehkuma and Al-Senky were on the same list amongst others including leaders from Al-Awageer and Al-Magharba Tribes as well as other field commanders.
The sources clarified that Haftar is leading the campaign to avoid disobedience in his forces after the failure of Guaim to control his area.
It is worth mentioning that Guaim’s fate is still unknown after he announced last week that he refused Haftar’s control.
Moreover, the movement of opposing Haftar in the east had been widened to include even the municipalities of Tobruk and Gardas from the east who had communicated with the head of the PC, Fayez Al-Sarraj.
