Haftar incites the tribes to obstruct HoR meetings

Sources in the city of Tobruk, eastern side of Libya, said that some tribal representatives prevented, on Monday, the House of Representatives (HoR) from convening.

The sources said that the commander of the Dignity Operation, General Khalifa Haftar, had instructed the tribal representatives to obstruct the meetings of Tunis between the two committees of the HoR and the State Council who started their meetings last week to amend the Political Agreement.

The sources confirmed that the HoR members couldn’t convene and announced that they would postpone the meeting to Tuesday in Benghazi University.

On another side, a source from the HoR stated that it was a protest because of the deterioration of the life situation in Tobruk.

The protestors announced that the demonstration and closing the HoR headquarter would continue until the members of the HoR listen to their demands to get their salaries and to solve the problems of the city.

Commanders from Haftar’s forces had kept communicating with some tribal leaders in Benghazi to organize demonstrations to prevent the HoR form meeting.

The sources said that Haftar is still refusing the political steps to end the crisis in Libya. The sources added that Haftar and the regional countries that support him think that Haftar is still able to gain more time to control all Libya including the capital city of Tripoli.

Haftar hopes that he would get international support if he gets more time to convince the International Community that he can control the country.

It is worth mentioning that Haftar talked to the Italians in his last visit to Rome about his ability to stop the illegal immigration and defeat the terrorists if they support him.

From its side, the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) said, on Monday, that the meetings of the two committees would continue in Tunisia this Saturday.
