Libyan Navy intercepts migrant boats in Libya



The Libyan navy stopped, two days ago, boats carrying about 700 illegal migrants who were trying to cross the Mediterranean Sea to Europe.

According to the Associated Press News Agency (AP), the spokesperson of the Libyan Navy, Ayoub Qassem, said that the coast guards of the Government of National Accord (GNA) stopped two boats at once, on Tuesday, carrying nearly 300 migrants in Tripoli. Another one with more than 160 migrants on board was stopped off the coast of the city of Sabratha, 60 Km west of Tripoli.

Moreover, the Italians helped the Libyan coast guards to intercept another boat carrying 88 migrants and another one with 134 migrants on Monday.

It is worth mentioning that thousands of migrants had tried to be smuggled to Europe, over last few years through the Mediterranean Sea from Libya on boats. Thousands of the illegal migrants have been drowned in the sea.
