ASC_Libya: Haftar is racist against Tamazight

The tension between the Libyan Tamazight and the commander of the army of the House of Representatives (HoR), General Khalifa Haftar, after the statement of Haftar on France24 who insisted on naming his army as “the Libyan Arab Army.”

The Amazigh Supreme Council of Libya (ASC_Libya) described Haftar’s statement as racist, discrimination, and violation of the indigenous peoples.

The ASC_Libya said that Haftar deliberately named his army “the Libyan Arab Army” to diminish the Libyan Tamazight people who have their original culture and language, which is different from the Arabic culture and language.

The ASC_Libya stressed that what so called Libyan Arab Army under the leadership of Haftar is just an ethnic terrorist militia that doesn’t represent the Tamazight people in Libya. The ASC_Libya added that the real Libyan national army must include all ethnicities in the Libyan society.

The ASC_Libya refused, in its statement, the return of the military ruling to the country. The ASC_Libya stressed that Libya would only be a civil and democratic state based on equality and pluralism, adding that the highest authority in Libya must be civil.

The ASC_Libya called the International Community to take the responsibility and its legal obligations against Haftar and his dangerous actions.

It is worth mentioning that this is the second tension after the controversial fatwa of Dar Al-Ifta of the Interim Government that linked to Haftar’s forces. The fatwa considered the Ibadi madhab followers, as Kuffar, while no Ibadi followers in Libya only the Tamazight people who live in the city of Zuwara and Baffusa mountain as well as in Tripoli.
