Al-Sarraj: Haftar Dishonored the Libyan People

The head of the Presidential Council (PC) of the Government of National Accord (GNA), Fayez Al-Sarraj, said that the commander of the army of the House of Representatives (HoR), General Khalifa Haftar, had dishonored the Libyan people when he refused the talks in Cairo last time.

Al-Sarraj stated, in a press release, that “I am surprised at the rejection, especially because it is an insult to the Libyan people,” adding that the reason for why Haftar had refused to meet me is not clear until now.

Al-Sarraj said that “the meeting was an important step towards rebuilding the political and military route to fight the terrorism together,” clarifying that it would even enable us to enter a new stage.

He stated that “despite that, we will continue calling all parties to sit at the table of negotiations,” stressing on the necessity the participation of everyone to achieve the political and military stability.

Al-Sarraj pointed that he launched the roadmap to save the country and remove the obstacles that hinder rebuilding the country. He added that the roadmap would modify the Political Agreement (PA) because it is the cornerstone for any resolution.

Al-Sarraj stressed on the significance of the actual support of the International Community to convince the Libyans that the United Nations puts the Libyan fate in the heart of the interest.
