Al-Swehli meets US ambassador to Libya

The of the State Council, Abdul-Rahman Al-Swehli, and his accompanying delegation met, on Saturday in Tunisia, the United States Ambassador to Libya, Peter Bodde.

In the meeting, Bodde confirmed is country’s support to the Libyan Political Agreement (PA) and its institutions. He stated that the United States doesn’t support any other side against the other, it only supports the National Accord and the efforts for dialogue and peace.

Bodde stressed that all security and financial institution should cooperate with the authorities of national accord to succeed in implementing the Political Agreement (PA).

The US ambassador said that the US Foreign Ministry was concerned about the attack on the convoy of the head of the Presidential Council (PC) and the chairman of the State Council in Tripoli.

He also said that country is ready to help the Libyan authorities in building and qualifying a professional and united Libyan army under the high civil authority in Libya to reduce the spread of the illegal armed groups.

From his side, Al-Swehli praised the American support to the Political Agreement (PA) and its institutions and to the Government of National Accord in defeating Daesh in the city of Sirte.

Al-Swehli confirmed that the State Council is open to all parties to reach the consensus and implement the PA. He stressed that the council insists on participating with all Libyans to build the state without excluding any side.

He also called the US to press on some regional countries, which support some parties in Libya, to stop intervening in the Libyan issues and obstructing the implementation of the PA.
