LIBYAPROPECT – London
The United Nations Secretary General, Antonio Guterres, had appointed the former Palestinian Prime Minister, Salam Fayyad, as the special UN envoy to Libya after the previous one, Martin Kobler.
Guterres had decided to appoint Fayyad in an official statement as his special envoy to Libya.
Fayyad is a businessman and was an active member of the Palestinian Government in the time of Yaser Arafat.
The political and military sides in Libya look at Fayyad from different angles. Some observant say that Fayyad tends to support what the Emirati leaders support in Libya, which means he might support Haftar instead of working on the Libyan accord.
Others ask how can the UN General Secretary appoint someone as his envoy to Libya without considering the different Libyan attitudes towards him.
