LIBYAPOSPECT – Algeria
Algerian Maghreb, African Union, and Arab League Minister, Abdel Qader Messahel, said that Algeria welcomes, on Sunday, the head of the Libyan Presidential Council (PC) of the Government of National Accord (GNA), Fayez Al-Sarraj.
He said that “Al-Sarraj’s visit follows other visits by active Libyan figures, including the head of the House of Representatives (HoR), Ageela Saleh, and the commander of the army of the HoR, General Khalifa Haftar.”
Messahel stated that such visits come in time when Libya is suffering from severe crises that would be escalated in the absence of the political solutions.
He added that “it is evident that Algeria can’t remain uncaring, regarding the vast borders, culture and history it shares with Libya. That’s why Algeria is carrying out intensive efforts to seek political resolutions that reserve the Libyan unity and sovereignty.”
Messahel stressed that “Algeria is working to hold a direct dialogue among Libyan factions to allow them to choose their future, in accordance with the international efforts.”
It is worth mentioning that Haftar visited Algeria last week, met the Algerian First Minister, Abdel Malek Sellal, and Messahel, on his first official visit to Algeria. Both sides discussed political resolutions to the Libyan crisis, as Algeria refuses any military solutions.
