The spokesperson of Dignity Operation, Ahmed Al-Mesmary, demanded Al-Bunyan Al-Marsous forces end Sirte battles with the least causalities so his army would be able to liberate the city, according to the way he said it.
He said, to the Egyptian media outlet Al-Youm7, that Al-Bunyan Al-Marsous forces haven’t achieved concrete results, liberating some neighborhoods and leaving others. He added that “Sirte turned into a ghost town like Al-Anbar, due to the American airstrikes that thoroughly destroyed the city.
Al-Mesmary mentioned that the US airstrikes destroyed Sirte, following their same method in Syria and Iraq, and citizens will not be able to come back until the city is fully reconstructed.
At the opposite side, the Human Rights Watch tackled in a recent report ongoing clashes in Ganfouda in Benghazi, seized by the Dignity army led by General Khalifa Haftar.
The report referred to statements by Haftar’s army that they will not allow the evacuation of males aged between 15 and 65, besides other conditions.
The report, that describes Haftar as the retired General, said that his army controls land inside and around Benghazi from 2014.
Residents of Ganfouda spoke on condition of anonymity, stated that the military executed air strikes and launched missiles targeting Ganfouda, that killed and injured an unidentified number of civilians and destructed the infrastructure.
Haftar’s war in Benghazi started in 2014; he then promised to end the war within weeks, but it continued despite cautious calm the city is witnessing.
Peculiarly, Al-Mesmary is talking about the open war against terrorism in Sirte, to say that Al-Bunyan Al-Marsous hadn’t achieved any concrete results. There is no wonder that Sirte operations didn’t exceed six months, forces advanced to final stages now combing the city for mines or explosives devices.
Al-Mesmary also said that his army is threatened by the troops of Ibrahim Jadhran and Zeyad Balaam in cooperation with the Defense Minister of the Government of National Accord (GNA), El-Mahdi El-Barghathi.
The question here is: how can he demand Al-Bunyan Al-Marsous to end the battle against Daesh while his way to reach Sirte is blocked by the mentioned forces that threatened his army?
One can raise the questions of, why is Al-Mesmary speaking about Al-Bunyan Al-Marsous forces in such timing? Is it a move to cover information reported about Haftar health condition? Or to hide Human Rights Watch report about Ganfouda? Or is there another agenda, as sources said, or penetration attempt planned by Gaddafi remnants?
It is important to mention that the clashes in Benghazi are still on between Haftar’s forces and Shura Revolutionaries Council, despite Haftar’s army announced that it is finished.
