LIBYAPROSPECT – London
The EU Counter-Terrorism Coordinator, Gilles de Kerchove, said, on Monday, that the threats to carry on terrorist attacks in EU member countries are too high.
Kerchove stated that the armed groups might use the flows of the illegal migration for infiltration of terrorism.
Kerchove told the European Parliament that thousands of foreign fighters with Islamic State (IS) group desire to go to Europe after they were defeated in Libya.
He said that despite recent success in fighting the IS in the city of Sirte, but the terrorist group still exists in Libya. He added that it is possible to see Libya as the platform for the IS to plan for attacks inside Europe.
He expressed his concern over expected developments of the quality of attacks, including using bombing cars or even chemical weapons to carry out attacks in Europe.
