Continued support to GNA by bombing IS in Sirte

On the first of this month, Sirte witnessed American air strikes targeted the locations of the Islamic State (IS) in Sirte while the world is fighting the terrorist group in different countries, including Syria and Iraq.

The US air strikes have supported the forces of the Operation “Al-Bunyan Al-Marsous” to advance and control the district “Dollar” in Sirte.

The American President, Barak Obama said, in a press conference on Thursday, that these air strikes came as a support to the Government of National Accord (GNA) in its fights against the IS to regain control of the city of Sirte.

From his side, the American Secretary of Foreign Affairs, John Kerry, confirmed that the US is not willing to deploy ground troops in Libya. He clarified that the Air raids on location in Sirte are only to support the GNA.

Italian media sources said that the Italian Government decided to open its airspaces for the American jets and to use Naval Air Station Sigonella in Sicily to carry air raids on the IS location in Sirte. He added that the air strikes would continue for four weeks, according to AKI news agency.

On the other hand, the member of the Media Center for the Operation “Al-Bunyan Al-Marsous”, Reda Essa, said that the forces operations would carry on advancing to control more locations in Sirte under the US air strikes.

Essa added that Al-Bunyan Al-Marsous is facing IS snipers and land mines in different parts of the city, and that is why the US air raids are needed to target the difficult reached spots.
