UNESCO calls for releasing Al-Shepl

The media officer of UNESCO in Libya, Raja Al-Abbasi, called for releasing the camera operator of Libya’s channel, Salim Al-Shepl, who disappeared last Friday while covering the demonstrations in Martyrs Square in Tripoli.

Al-Abbasi confirmed that the United Nations and the UNESCO put a plan to protect the journalists, adding that there is a book issued by UNESCO explains how to protect the journalists in the places of disputes.

Al-Abbasi said that journalists in Libya are facing violations, harassments, kidnapping, and killing, expressing her displeasure and disappointment regarding that.

She stated that there must be communications with official authorities such as the Government of National Accord (GNA) to ensure the freedom of the Libyan journalists.
