279 thousand pupils deprive of education

The United Nations published a report on the situation of education in Libya under the ongoing chaos.

According to FranceSoir website, the report said that around 279 thousand Libyan pupils are not able to join schools because of instability and political and security troubles in the country.

The Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said that the statistics issued by the Libyan Ministry of Education gave a terrifying image about the educational system.

The report stated that 558 schools are not suitable for education anymore and prevented 279 thousands of pupil from receiving the education.

Most of these schools have been closed because they are damaged due fighting, and other schools in Benghazi and other cities became shelter centers for the displaced.

It is worth mentioning that Benghazi became a battlefield for conflicts between the Army affiliated to the House of Representatives (HoR) under the leadership of Khalifa Haftar and other groups.

On the other side, the city of Sirte witnessed awful time since more than a year ago, when the terrorist group, the Islamic State (IS), controlled the area as a stronghold. And since the end of last April and early May, when the battles between the Operation “Al-Bunyan Al-Marsous” and the IS started, about 35000 inhabitants fled Sirte looking for safer places in Misrata, Bani-Walid, Tripoli, and other cities.
