According to Italy’s coast guard, ten women lost their lives when their boat, which was stuffed with migrants, sank off the coast of Libya on Thursday.
Reuters reported that Diciotti rescued 107 people from the same boat, the captain of said that the vessel had taken on so much water, and it was about to sink. He added that the women probably died either of suffocation (from being trampled on) or by drowning at the bottom part of the rubber boat.
1288 migrants were reduced by the Italian coast guard and navy ships, on Wednesday, in six separate operations in the Mediterranean Sea.
