Mitig: International Community is waiting for a letter from the PC to unfreeze the assets - Internet

The Deputy head of the Presidential Council (PC) of the Government of National Accord (GNA), Ahmed Mitig, said that the ideological, political, and militarily reasons are behind the division in the Libyan case

Mitig told Russia Today TV that the GNA is working on reuniting the Libyan State institutions; adding that “we are not practicing tutelage on the opinions of the factions.”

Mitig talked about the Libyan frozen assets in foreign banks since the sanctions on Muammar Gaddafi’s regime

He stated that the International Community is waiting for a letter from the Presidential Council (PC) to unfreeze the assets, but the PC is waiting for ending the division in the State institutions so Libyan citizens can benefit from that.

Regarding the division inside the Libyan Investment Authority (LIA), Mitig confirmed that the Presidential Council is working to end the division by communicating with all factions before starting implementing the procedure of unfreezing $130 Billion.

In the interview, Mitig denied the circulating news of meeting General Khalifa Haftar, as he visited Russia at the same time. Mitig added that he is not on the side that negotiates Haftar.

Mitig said that the legal procedures for the trial of Saif Gaddafi hadn’t finished yet because Saif is in a region outside the Presidential Council’s control.

Mitig called the international community to keep its promises to start arming the Libyan Army under the umbrella of the GNA, and to help in treating the wounded in the fighting against the Islamic State (IS).

He said that the number of the wounded in the Operation “Al-Bunyan Al-Marsous” is 824 fighters.
