EU foreign ministers call for expanding PA in Libya

Mogherini: GNA has the support of the international community - Internet

Several EU foreign ministers in their meeting in Luxemburg have issued calls to expand the Political Agreement (PA) process in Libya and involve the House of Representatives (HoR) to find an exit for the current crisis.

The Luxembourg Foreign Minister, Jean Asselborn, told reporters that the legitimacy in Libya owned by the Libyans themselves, adding that it is necessary to communicate with the elected HoR in Tobruk.

He stated that the current chaos in Libya was not only of interest to Europe but also the African continent.

The High Representative of the European foreign policy, Federica Mogherini, asserted that the Government of National Accord (GNA) has the support of the international community, which enables it to work in a semi-absolute workspace.

The Belgian Foreign Minister, Didier Reynders, stated that it is important to expand the political workspace in Libya and to work with all parties.

He added that the European assistance to Libya could be summarized in providing support for reforming the security services, protection of the Libyan coasts, and contributing to addressing the human smugglers.

The French Foreign Minister, Jean-Marc Ayrault, said that the decision to expand the task force (Sophia) in the Mediterranean includes the implementation of an arms embargo aimed at preventing the Islamic State (IS) group from receiving weapons through the Mediterranean.
