Gentiloni urges Haftar to accept GNA

Gentiloni: Haftar refuses to recognise the GNA - Internet

The Italian Foreign Secretary, Paolo Gentiloni, uncover Italian efforts to convince the retired General Khalifa Haftar to approve the Government of National Accord (GNA) headed by Fayez Al-Sarraj, reported Aki.

Gentiloni said, in a convention about Libya in Rome, Tuesday, that “we are working secretly since weeks to get more indicative results, to urge Haftar forces to accept Al-Sarraj’s government.”

He added that “I am convinced that in the long term, and without more consensus, Libya will not have real stability,” confirming that “what has been achieved till now, but the path still long to achieve stability.”

“Till now, Haftar refuses to recognize the political power of the unity government, some powers, on the other hand, find it hard to cope with Haftar under one unified command,” said Gentiloni.
