The United Nations special envoy to Libya, Martin Kobler, has called the Presidential Council (PC) of the Government of National Accord (GNA) to create conditions to request exemptions from weapons embargo from the UN Security Council for the GNA forces.
Kobler expressed, through his Facebook page on Saturday, the impression of the rapid progress of the GNA loyal forces against the Islamic State group (IS) in Sirte and called all fighters to respect international humanitarian law and not to target civilians.
He added that he urged the international community to deliver coordinating humanitarian assistance to Libya in its fight against the IS, in his meeting with international representatives in Tunisia on Friday.
Kobler elaborated that ways to provide medical care to injured, including practical measures that can be quickly implemented, were discussed. It was agreed that humanitarian assistance should not be subject to political considerations or mixed with other types of assistance
