The Italian authorities were handed the Eritrean smuggler, Yahdego Merid, (35 years old), one of the leaders of the entrenched criminal network smuggling migrants from Africa to Europe through Libya.
He was arrested in Sudan, on 24 May, and airlifted to Italy last night. The Italian authorities accused him of different charges, especially that he is one leader of a criminal gang working between Africa and Libya to smuggle migrants through the Libyan deserts to Europe.
The Italian authorities said that they begun investigating Merid bank accounts inside and outside Europe, his wealth is worth of millions of US Dollars.
In 2014 only, Merid smuggled between 7-8 thousand people from Libya to Europe.
