The Libyan Government of National Accord (GNA) warned, on Tuesday, that European ships close to Libya’s northern borders, to tackle migration crisis, would undermine its efforts to control the country.

Libya’s ambassador to Rome, Ahmed Safar, said that “the unity government didn’t invite any European ships inside its territorial waters to stop people smuggling as it would undermine any efforts to empower the UN-brokered new administration.”

Safar said, to media reporters, that “inviting foreign forces in the Libyan waters is a security step that could decrease migrants crossing the Mediterranean, but it won’t help to unite the country.”

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees said, Monday, that 880 migrants died in three shipwrecks last week, and more than 13 thousand were rescued.
