The Defense Minister in the Government of National Accord (GNA), El-Mahdi Al-Barghathi, said that “the war in Benghazi against terrorism will continue till liberating the whole city from Ansar Al-Sharia, the main perpetrator of assassinations and explosions.”

He added, Saturday, that “the revolutionaries in Benghazi succumb to Ansar Al-Sharia, who alien himself with a criminal is a criminal too”.

“Going to Tripoli was a necessity, to stop supplies coming for the west to the terrorists inside Benghazi, and to clarify to our citizens in the west what is really going on in Benghazi. We will continue our war until liberating the city form terrorism,” said Al-Barghathi.

Al-Barghathi was one supporter for the 15th October uprising in Benghazi, pointing that he met with the city youth, in October 2014, offered weapons and ammunition to support Dignity Operation forces.

He stressed his refusal to the military rule, calling for strict regulations and laws to prevent the army from committing a coup against the sovereign authority.

He pointed that “he will work as the defense minister and cooperate with the army supreme command affiliate to the House of Representatives (HoR) and all military commanders against terrorism”.

Regarding Gaddafi era officials, Al-Barghathi said he doesn’t oppose the return of Gaddafi officials to Libya, but they shouldn’t impose their views or call for the return of Gaddafi regime, refusing actions of some Gaddafi officials, who bring mercenaries to Libya, as well as their support for the Islamic State (IS) in Sirte.
