Gentiloni: Libya needs consensual resolutions

The Italian Foreign Secretary, Paolo Gentiloni, confirmed that his country won’t provide any support for the retired General Khalifa Haftar in Benghazi, preferring national consensus.

State media quoted Gentiloni saying “we need a solution that preserve Libya’s unity, a resolution that accomplish reconciliation between all parties, such solution won’t be in the hands of Haftar”, according to Ean Libya website.

Gentiloni said that Libya needs unity between different factions and national reconciliation, and this “can’t be done with Haftar, as he is the main block against the formation of a unity government”, according to Italian Newspaper La Repubblica.

Arturo Varvelli, analyst at ISPI, said that Haftar not only fights terrorism but any kind of opposition against him.
