The Chief of the House of Representatives (HoR), Ageela Saleh, said that the Government of National Accord (GNA) shouldn’t start its works before being endorsed by the HoR and swear in.
The Presidential Council (PC) of the GNA has announced on Saturday starting works of the government after nearly 100 HoR members signed a statement to grant confidence to the GNA.
On another development, the Alliance of National Forces (ANF) said in a statement that it refuses the endorsement of the GNA outside the HoR.
The Chief of the ANF, Mahmoud Jebril, told the United Nations special envoy to Libya, Martin Kobler, that skipping any democratic procedure is a clear conflict of the Political Agreement.
The statement demanded the international community to respect the role of the HoR, while asked the HoR to uphold its responsibilities and hold a press conference to call for a live broadcasted session to vote on the constitutional amendments and endorsing the GNA. It also called on the Presidential Council (PC) to respect the Political Agreement and powers granted to other authorities.
“Maintaining the continuity of the political process in Libya is more important than any legitimacy granted by the international community”, it stated.
