The chief of the Presidency Council (PC), Fayez Al-Sarraj, met on Sunday with the United Nations special envoy to Libya, Martin Kobler, to discuss the latest developments of forming the Government of National Accord (GNA). Kobler went through his meeting with the chief of the House of Representatives (HoR), Ageela Saleh.
Controversy over the defense ministry is still ongoing. Sources uncovered that members of the Presidency Council are split between appointing a minister for defense ministry and designating A-Sarraj to fill in the post.
A conflict is on between the deputy chief of the PC, Fathy Al-Majbary, supported by oil installations guards and representatives of Ajdabiyah and oil crescent area, and the deputy PC chief, Ali Al-Qatrany, who is supported by the army leadership, over choosing the Minister of Defense.
The same sources confirm that Al-Qatrany insisted in the beginning, for 2 days, on founding this ministry before choosing the Al-Sarraj to care-take of its tasks, till a minister is appointed.
According to the geographical distribution of ministries, eastern representative in the PC and the House of Representative (HoR), demand to have the defense ministry.
On January 25th, the HoR refused the government formation by the Presidency Council and demanded a minimized government within 10 days.
