Al-Sherif: CDA reaches stalemate

The member of the Constitutional Drafting Assembly (CDA), Al-Araby Al-Sherif, said that the CDA reached stalemate due to members’ intransigence specially the work committee.

He added that number of members insist on adopting three capitals in three regions, Tripoli, Benghazi and Sebha, describing such suggestion as “unrealistic”.

Al-Sherif expressed his surprise that the work committee still convene in spite of lack of quorum after the withdrawal of two members from the western region, Saleh Keshlaf and Abdul Basset Naas, protesting what they called “increased belligerent instead of consensus concerning contentious issues in the constitution draft”.

The work committee decided, earlier, to freeze its work, due to the absence of the two members from the eastern region, according to Al-Sherif.

“Wisdom requires that members of the western region suspend their memberships”, he said.
