Mayor of Sirte municipality said that the Islamic State group (IS) seized money stored inside banks of the city controlled by the group.
Mukhtar Khalifa Al-Maadany said, to Libyan news agency, that banks seized by the IS contains more than 50 million dinars. the group is controlling all banks inside that city, hence citizens are facing difficulties in withdrawing their money.
Sirte municipality met with head of control department at The Central Bank of Libya, Abdel Hafeedh Trebil, to discuss opening alternative branches to the banks controlled by the IS, to facilitate money withdrawal.
The Islamic State controls most of Sirte, forcing more than thousand of families to flee seeking safe shelter outside the city.
