Some sources said that the Presidential Council of the unity government, headed by Fayez Al-Sarraj, approached consensus about the formation of a Military Council led by retired General Khalifa Haftar and the Colonel Salem Juha as his deputy.
According to Libyan news agency, relative sources confirmed that there is an agreement on the formation of a Military Council commanded by Haftar.
“The Military Council would consist of five members headed by Haftar, Salem Juha as deputy. The decision is consensual, was taken during consulted meeting held three days ago between the members of the Presidential Council”, the sources said.
The sources didn’t enclose the names of the other members that was suggested for the Military Council, pointing they will be chosen from different regions of Libya.
The sources mentioned that an official session will be held to confirm approval on the Military Council formation, reached after heated discussions between the members of the Presidential Council.
The Presidential Council saw heated arguments about the future of general command of the armed forces, as both, Fathy Magbary and Ahmed Al-Qatrany, support the appointment of Haftar as the head of the military command, while south and west members reject such suggestion, claiming that “Haftar doesn’t enjoy wide popular support all over Libya”.
