LIBYAPROSPECT – Zliten
One doctor inside Zliten hospital said that number of deaths reached 74, following suicide attack targeted coast guards camp, beside another 9 in Misrata hospital, more two bodies were brought from under debris.
The doctor added, to LIBYAPROSPECT, that number of wounded in Zliten hospital are 16 including 6 in intensive care unites, another 5 are in surgery. Most cases were transported to Tripoli, Misrata and Khoms, intensive care cases will be referred to Mitiga with flying Ambulance before flying to Turkey.
The hospital is empty of medicines, all medications inside special clinics all over the city were brought to the hospital and fully used. The doctor pointed to shortage in medical staff at all specializations.
A car bomb exploded, Thursday, in front of training center for coast guards in Zliten, east of the Libyan capital Tripoli and lead to dozens of deaths and injured.
Security sources inside the city said that the attack occurred during morning gathering for trainees, using water filling truck that entered the camp in the morning.
The suicide attack bore the hallmarks of the Islamic State group (IS), according to one source who confirmed that the attack wasn’t the first for the IS in the city.
The health ministry, in Tripoli government, announced emergency in hospitals of Tripoli and Misrata to receive the injured.
Manager of the local hospital said at least 50 persons were killed and 50 wounded, in preliminary statistics.
From his side, the United Nation special envoy to Libya, Martin Kobler condemned the terrorist attack that targeted Zliten camp.
He said, on Twitter “I strongly condemn the terrorist attack occurred in Zliten, I encourage all Libyans to unify in the face of terrorism”.
