The Algerian Minister of Maghreb affairs and the African Union, Abdulqader Messahel, applauded the UN resolution embracing the Libyan political agreement, saying that it reflected principles Algeria has been calling for.
The UN issued on Wednesday its resolution number 2259 to support and legitimize the political agreement and the resulting Government of National Accord (GNA), calling on all international parties to deal with Libya only through it.
“Algeria is comfortable that the resolution included the principles of political solution that it kept calling for, especially concerning the principles of sovereignty, independence and national unity,” Messahel said.
Messahel promised the continuity of Algeria’s efforts to support the new authorities till Libya achieves peace, stability and reconciliation.
He called on Libyans to embrace the political solution that offers the UN and international community recognition. About the international community, Messahel demanded the full respect to Libya’s sovereignty, present required aid and political, economic and security support.
