A female Libyan researcher was arrested in the Italian city of Palermo for terrorism support accusations, she was released later for the lack of evidence, the Italian News agency reported.
The economic affairs researcher at Palermo University, Khadija Al-Shaby, 45, was accused of holding communications with foreign fighters and propaganda campaign for terrorism groups, the city’s Prosecutor General stated.
Al-Shaby has been living in Italy for 3 years and studying at the university on the expenses of the Libyan embassy and is granted $2000 a month. She was put under surveillance by the Italian police in the latest months due to information confirming her relations with 2 foreign fighters in Belgium and England.
Al-Shaby was released because lack of evidence while being banned from leaving the city. Arrest warrant mentioned that Al-Shaby transferred money to Turkey for “suspicious reasons”.
