The Libyan coast guards succeeded in saving over a hundred illegal migrants from drowning while on travel to the European coasts, 2 drowned and other 10 went missing, an official source stated.
“The boat was almost completely under water” off Janzour town; about 10 kilometers (six miles) west of Tripoli, coastguard, Colonel Ashraf al-Badri, said, 108 were rescued.
Survivors were taken to a naval base, given dry clothes and blankets, while awaiting referral to a detention center, AFP reported.
Libya is having a hard time with the illegal migration influx, as smugglers taking advantage of the political and security situations, use is as a launch pad to the European coasts, especially Italy.
Earlier in December, Italy’s coastguard said it had rescued more than 4,600 people from boats off Libya.
