NATO prepares for rapid intervention force in Libya

The Secretary General of NATO, Jens Stoltenberg, said that the organization is keeping a close eye on Libya, and is preparing for deploying a rapid intervention force of 40000 soldiers to face current challenges.

The Italian Prime Minister, Matteo Renzy, told journalists on the margins of the NATO ministers meeting on Wednesday that the solution lies in the hands of Libyans. He added that the NATO American efforts will mainly have the supportive role. Italy and America can provide support and make the agreement among Libyans possible.

Security officials fear that Islamic State group (IS) may use the city of Sirte as a base for attacks, similar to Paris attacks, or turned into a destination for European fighters, while Libya serves as launching pad for refugees.
