The Arab League has expressed its full support to the efforts of the United Nations representative in Libya, Martin Kobler, to form the Government of National Accord (GNA) and in completing the efforts of his predecessor, Bernardino Leon.
Kobler met with the Arab League Secretary General, Nabil El-Araby on Sunday to discuss the details of his mission and efforts for reaching a final agreement between rivals, assistant Secretary General, Fadel Gawad said.
Kobler expressed hope that the GNA will be formed by the end of the year in Tripoli. Gawad noted that Kobler asked El-Araby for the support of the league to form the GNA and assist it in its tasks.
El-Araby expressed the league’s support for the Government of National Accord (GNA) and any peaceful agreement provided that stopping the advance of Islamic State group (IS) and terrorist operations in Libya.
Kobler hoped for more representatives in the House of Representatives (HoR) and the General National Congress (GNC) to take part in achieving the political agreement to reach one government and one parliament.
The Arab League is to participate in the neighboring countries meeting in Algeria within days, the vice-secretary general ambassador Ahmad Ben-Hali said.
