Italian coast guard save nearly 1000 migrants Off-Libya

The Italian coast guard announced the success of a joint effort in saving nearly 1000 illegal migrants, including children and women, off the Libyan coasts.

The Italian coast guard, responsible for coordinating rescue efforts, said in a statement on Friday that 949 migrants were onboard of seven inflatable boats and a small fishing boat.

The rescue operation was aided by ships belong to the Italian coast guard, doctors without borders’ ship “Dignity”,  and British, Slovenia, and Belgian navy ships operate within the mission “Sophia,” which was launched the European Union in the Mediterranean to fight human smugglers.
