Heavy clashes broke out between army brigades loyal to the House of Representatives (HoR) and Islamic State (IS) militants nearby the eastern city of Darna. The firefight took place just outside Darna on Friday evening and didn’t stop until noon on Saturday.
According to Reuters, four soldiers of the Libyan army were killed, and three were injured whilst fighting IS militants. Darna used to be a stronghold of IS, until earlier this year, when the Shura Council of Mujahedeen of Darna expelled the radical group out of the city, since then IS have made multiple attempts to regain control of the city, of which all have failed.
It is believed that the HoR in Tobrok has sent airstrikes to bombard IS targets in the city of Benghazi, no details have been confirmed on targets hit.
