It has been reported that approximately 50 people have been found dead whilst on a boat carrying hundreds of migrants was intercepted off the coast of Libya. Scores of bodies have been found on board of boats carrying migrants since January 2015.
It is believed that these people have died due to asphyxiation, this is a condition of being deprived of oxygen, in simplified terms, and the migrants have died due to suffocation or smothering.
Approximately 430 were rescued from the boat where the 50 migrants were found dead. Thousands of migrants have lost their lives trying to cross the Mediterranean to arrive in Europe, all of which have set sail from the coast of Libya.
